Study on Physiological and Biochemical Indexes in the Resistance of ‘Jingyu’ to Strawberry Anthracnose

Abstract: In order to research the physiological and biochemical mechanisms of the resistance of a new strawberry cultivar ‘Jingyu’ to anthracnose, we used ‘Jingyu’ as a research object and the high-anthracnose-resistant strawberry cultivar ‘Sweet Charlie’, anthracnose-susceptible strawberry cultivars ‘Toyonoka’ and ‘Benihoppe’ as controls to investigate the changes of the content of total soluble proteins, malondialdehyde (MDA) and vitamin C, as well as the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) in the leaves of the four strawberry cultivars at different times after inoculated with Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The results showed that the content of total soluble proteins, MDA and vitamin C and the activity of SOD, POD, CAT in the leaves increased firstly and then decreased in a 96 hours range. The content of soluble total protein and MDA, as well as the activity of SOD and POD showed significant differences between the resistant and susceptible strawberry cultivars. The MDA content of the leaves reduced as the resistance strengthened and the activity of CAT increased as the resistance strengthened. These results indicated that the resistance of ‘Jingyu’ to anthracnose was related to the low MDA content, the high content of total soluble proteins and the high activity of SOD, POD and CAT.
