Abstract: The paper aims to understand the impact of recent flood disasters on social and economic development in Baoji. The author analyzed the flood disasters’ level sequence and their impact on people’s life and social and economic development by sorting and counting the local historical data for nearly 61 years in Baoji. The results showed that: flooding disasters happened 42 times during 1949-2009, almost once every 1.45 years on average; in this period, flood disasters of level-Ⅱ and Ⅲ were dominant which happened 36 times, accounting for 85.71% of the total number, flood disasters of level-Ⅳ was less and the level-Ⅰ was the least; in addition, before 1980, flood disasters had less impact on all aspects of people’s life and social and economic development; after 1980, flood disasters had heavy impact on agricultural production, social economy, transportation, people’s life and other aspects. Relevant departments should take on their duty of early warning and disaster preparedness, thus to minimize the impact of flood disaster on social economy in Baoji.
