Abstract: To clarify the genetic law of the first flower node in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), 6 generations of the first flower node from the cross‘Ju08-10’בFengjiang 10’was investigated with the major gene plus polygene inheritance model 6 generation joint analysis method of quantitative traits. The genetic analysis software which was provided by Professor Zhang Yuanming of Nanjing Agricultural University, was used to calculate the most suitable genetic model and the corresponding genetic parameters. The results showed that the first flower node of the cross‘Ju08-10’בFengjiang 10’was controlled by additive-dominance-interaction polygene model, no major gene. Heritability value of polygene of the cross‘Ju08- 10’בFengjiang 10’of F2 population was estimated as 71.64%. Environment VAR of the cross‘Ju08-10’בFengjiang 10’of F2 population was 28.36% in total VAR. We concluded that the first flower node of cowpea was quantitative trait and was controlled by polygene. Environment played an important role in the trait inheritance. Early matured (lower node) trait could be made by hybrid vigor, but direction al selection had better effects.
