Abstract: To define the urbanization stage of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area (Chongqing section) and the driving forces of grain sowing area, and analyze the relationship between these two, the authors used the statistical analysis method, AHP, fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to conduct the study. The results showed that (1) the rate of urbanization in the study area increased fast, and the levels of urbanization of different districts (counties) were recognized by urbanization rate; (2) the grain sowing area showed a downward trend and a “moderate increase- sharp decrease- slight increase- slight decrease” trend, and the difference among districts (counties) was obvious; (3) the change of the driving forces of grain sowing area could be divided into three kinds of spatial regions: the most superior economical welfare-ecological safety driving area, the most superior economical welfare-grain safety driving area and the survival economical welfare-grain safety driving area; (4) the relationship between the urbanization stage and the driving forces of grain sowing area was determined. This study could ease the contradiction between food security and economic development, and provide reference for the study area to make different food security measures.
