Abstract: In order to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution of winter freezing of tea(Camellia sinensis) in Zhejiang province, the meteorological indexes and hierarchies of tea trees winter freezing were proposed in the article. With the indexes and the data in the 64 meteorological stations around the province during 1971-2011, the temporal and spatial distribution of winter freezing of tea trees in Zhejiang province was analyzed using the empirical orthogonal function(EOF) and wavelet analysis. The results showed that the first EOF mode for the mild, moderate and severe winter freezing could reflected the average case of the whole province. The spatial distribution of first EOF mode for the mild and severe frost were all positive in the whole province, and both high value of mild and severe were around northwest Zhejiang. The EOF mode for moderate were overall negative, except east Wenzhou, southeast Taizhou. The maximum absolute values of the mode were around north and middle Zhejiang. The results could provide a scientific basis for tea trees production.
