Abstract: To increase the profit of pearl production by Pinctada martensii, cone net, plastic cage and cylinder net were used for post-operative care of P. martensii; and cone net, cylinder net and panel net were used for culture of P. martensii during the period of pearl producing. The results showed that the nucleus retention rate of operated P. martensii was significantly influenced by culture cages during the period of recovery (P<0.05). The nucleus retention rate was the highest for the operated P. martensii cultured in cylinder net. The survival rate, nucleus retention rate and percentage of perfect pearls were significantly influenced (P<0.05) by culture cages during period of pearl producing. The three indexes were the highest for P. martensii cultured in cylinder net, while were the lowest for those cultured in cone net. Thus the optimal culture cages for pearl production of P. martensii were cylinder net and panel net.
