Abstract: The ear –kernel characters of 259 F3 lines derived from a normal corn×popcorn cross and their relationships with popping fold were analyzed in two environments. The results showed that all ear –kernel characters of F3 lines were very high, and there were many lines with better ear –kernel characters than the popcorn inbred. The ear –kernel characters were quantitative in nature, controlled by many genes with small effects; ear-kernel weight and 100-kernel weight had bigger negative direct or indirect effect on popping fold;Row kernel number and ear length had positive direct effect on popping fold, other characters had indirect positive effect on expansion fold through row kernel number and ear length. So it might be effective to select on row kernel number and ear length directly to improve kernel yield of selected lines derived from normal corn×popcorn crossws.
