Abstract: In this study, we examined effects of phytoestrogen quercetin on the growth and skeletal development using amphibian Xenopus laevis as model animals. X. laevis were exposed to quercetin (50μg/L, 100μg/L, 200μg/L) from stage 46/47 to one month postmetamorphosis. The results showed that quercetin promoted body weigh gain and induced tail malformations. Exposure of 200μg/L quercetin caused vertebral malformations, which exhibited loss of a vertebra compared to the normal.
