A Preliminary Study on the Behavior of Confined Young Male Dorper Sheep

Abstract: Successive 3 diurnal behavior observation for 4 confined young male Dorper Sheep was done in October, 2005. The results showed that feed intake time were 193.3±35.5min, ruminate time 409.4±40.3min, sleep time 541.6±23.2 min, free activity time 245.7±42.3min and the other behavior 50.0±4.7min. The time ratio of rumination to feed-intake was 2.1:1.0. The rumination and sleep took place mostly at night while feed intake at the day (p<0.01), and evacuation at the day and urination were almost same at night (p>0.05).
