Abstract: In this paper, the pot-cultivation experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of straw-returning manner on nutrient uptake, yield and soil fertility maintaining under different water managements. The results showed that straw returning could increase the rice yield in both conventional flooded cultivation and wet irrigation cultivation. while rape straw treatment was not significantly different from the wheat straw treatment. And the straw covering was best. Moreover, the following rape yield with straw returning treatment was also increased by1.8%-9.3% compared with no straw treatment. In addition, as for the effect on nutrient uptake, conventional flooded cultivation was higher than wet irrigation cultivation, but straw-returning could promote nutrient uptake and use. So wet irrigation cultivation could improve soil organic matter content compared to conventional flooded cultivation. Therefore, this indicated that wet irrigation condition was benefit for the nutrient release of returning straw and maintainment of soil nutrient
