Abstract: Abstract: 8 palms seedlings, such as date palm (Phoenix canariensis) and coconut (Hyophorbe verschaffeltii), were cultivated in soils with different salinity and their relations between growth and soil salinity were investigated. Suitable, critical and limit values of soil salinity for seedling growth were determined by analyzing relative plant growth and productivity under salt stress. Palm seedlings were divided into 3 types based on the relation curves between their growth and soil salinity: type of stimulation under low salinity; type of linear negatively correlation; type of susceptivity under low salinity. The tolerance ability to salt stress went down as follows: Phoenix canariensis, Hyophorbe verschaffeltii, Dypsis decaryi, Ravenea rivularis, Dictyosperma album, Roystonea regia, Latania lontanoides and Wodyetia bifurcata. Our results provide experimental supports for application of palm plants to coastal areas of southern China.
