Abstract:
With the development of biotechnology, genetically modified foods are widely going into our life. To understand better the consumer’s cognitive views of genetically modified (GM) food labelling will provide the advancing helps for the GM food markets. In order to know the consumer’s purchase intention about the GM food, a survey was carried out in several supermarkets in Shijiazhuang, the results showed that there still had some confuse on the GM food identification. Only 15.7% related corn, soybean, tomato and potato food products were given the GM description, 11.4% was labeled non transgenic food, and more than 70% was not provided any transgenic information. Moreover, 67.9% respondents would like to know some information about transgenic products. This result will provide some helps for the GM food development in the market. Furthermore, some considering of informed choice on GM food for consumers was discussed.
