Abstract:

There were more and more research activities on South China Karst in the past 20 years. Since rocky desertification becomes a research hot spot nowadays, the author suggested that the distinctiveness of soil and water loss in South China Karst area, which was a basic condition for rocky desertification, should be highlighted. Only by studying based on distinctiveness of soil and water loss, can we correctly realize its essence and hazard. The distinctiveness was caused by many factors, among which geological background was a precondition, climate background played an important role, special natural factors were direct reasons, and human activities were tremendous driving force. Rocky desertification was the result from the distinctive soil and water loss in South China Karst area. All researches on its distinctiveness aimed to obtain evaluation standard, research methods, soil and water conservation measures applied to South China Karst, which would help us prevent and control rocky desertification.
