Abstract:
In order to explore the root restriction on physiological effects in berry, 3-year-old ‘Houman’ was used to examine the effects of root restriction on photosynthetic characteristics and sucrose metabolism. The results showed that the diurnal variation of photosynthetic rate (Pn) in root restriction was accordance with that in CK. Compared with CK, the treatment had higher net Pn, stomata conductance (Gs) and transpiration ratio (Tr). Chl content of RR was higher than that of CK. Total sugar content and the enzyme activities related with sucrose metabolism in berries from the RR was higher than that of CK in the later stages of berry development. The results indicated that higher enzyme activity and their comprehensive action in the later stages of berry development could explain the mechanism by which root restriction affected sugar accumulation, ultimately improved berry qualities.
