Abstract:

To provide the basis for policy formulation and research of Pogostemon cablin breeding, the situation of the industry was investigated. The results showed that there was a problem that the production scale of P. cablin was being decreased gradually in four production regions in Guangdong Province, which were Yangjiang, Maoming, Zhanjiang and Zhaoqing regions. The problem was caused by jumbled germplasm resources, serious diseases and pests, extensive cultivation, unstable price and inadequate of government support. Considering the developing tendency of Southern Chinese Herbs, a strategy to promote the development of planting industry of P. cablin was suggested in this paper. The keys to promote the industry were of setting up a large base for P. cablin, making production plan by understanding the market volume, and resolving the problem of continuous cropping.
