Abstract: The occurrence regularity of Helicoverpa armigera has changed in recent years because of the adjustment of cultivation structure and irrigation regimes as well as climatic changes. This study was aimed to provide theoretical basis for the timely control of Helicoverpa armigera. In 2008-2011, occurrence regularity of Helicoverpa armigera was studied through trapping with insect killer lamp, withered poplar branches (WPB) and sex attractant. Also efficiency of this three trapping techniques to Helicoverpa armigera was compared. Chemical pesticides which were suitable for the locality were screened by field efficacy trials. The results showed that, eclosion of the overwintering generation adults happened in early May and reach peak in late May in Shihezi. The adults of first generation occurred in mid-June and the peak appeared from June 22 to July 2, the second generation happened in mid-to-late July and from July 22 to August 3 respectively. In addition, the results demonstrated that monitoring the overwintering generation and adults of first generation by using sex attractant was effective, WPB could control adults of first generation; adults of second generation could be monitored by WPB, the efficiency of WPB and light trapping to manage the adults was better. Results of field efficacy trials indicated that bio-agent including Lufenuron and NPV have a good control effect against Helicoverpa armigera.
