Abstract: Chenopodium quinoa (quinoa), which belongs to Chenopodium, Amaranthaceae, is native to the Andes in South America. It has been planted for 5000-7000 years, and is highly praised as the main grain crop by local residents. Recently, quinoa has attracted extensive research attention because of its overall nutrient value, balanced amino acid ratio, food and medical value. In order to provide useful reference for researchers, based on reading literatures at home and abroad, this study summarized the research progress of cultivation test, nutritional components, the product exploitation, the genetic genealogy, stress resistance, resistance to pests and diseases and so on. Some unresolved problems were proposed, such as low altitude resulting in lower yields, health function of quinoa, the uses of the by-products and so on. These would be the emphasis in this area in the future. In the end, this study analyzed its potential in North-Western China as a miscellaneous grain crop.
