Abstract: In order to provide theoretical support for the comprehensive control of Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky, the oviposition rhythm of S. zeamais in waxy maize, coix seed, common corn, sorghum and wheat was studied by using the traditional biological method under the temperature of (27±1)℃. The results showed that the oviposition duration of S. zeamais in waxy maize, coix seed, common corn, sorghum and wheat was 137.14, 122.86, 85.71, 80.00 and 51.43 days, respectively. And a female adult could lay 45.65, 45.34, 21.34, 49.20 and 33.97 eggs in the above 5 kinds of grains, respectively. No obvious pre-oviposition period was found, the females could lay eggs on the same day of eclosion, but their oviposition rhythm showed differences in different kinds of grains. The oviposition peaks appeared in 10-20 days in sorghum and wheat, 20-30 days in common corn, 40-50 days in coix seed and 70-80 days in waxy maize after eclosion, respectively. In conclusion, the fertility and oviposition rhythm were affected by different kinds of grains.
