Abstract:
The absorption and utilization of exogenous inorganic iodine in watermelon was studied through fertilizing inorganic iodine in field. Meanwhile, the effect of exogenous iodine on the growth of watermelon was also investigated in this paper. The results indicated that iodine could be absorbed by watermelon plant from root, and accumulated in root, stem, leaves, fruit peel and fruit pulp. The ability of iodine absorption and accumulation had significant differences in different parts of watermelon. The concentration of iodine in watermelon plant ranked as: root>stem>leaves>fruit peel>fruit pulp, and this distribution ability was similar between potassium iodide treatment and potassium iodate treatment. The iodine concentration of fruit pulp was 3.23-28.94 times with different inorganic iodine treatments compared with control treatment. The application of inorganic iodine source in soil had no influence on watermelon normal growth, fruit output and fruit quality.
