Application Progress of Heat Balance Stem-flow Gauge in Measuring Plant Transpiration Water Consumption

Abstract: Heat balance stem-flow gauge is an instrument used for measuring the plant transpiration water consumption rate. This kind of stem-flow gauge has been applied widely and studied thoroughly because of its advantages including accuracy, convenience, lossless and digitalization. This paper aimed to analyze and discuss the application and development of heat balance stem-flow gauge in determination of transpiration water consumption in China in recent years, and provide a theoretical basis for the scientific use and the improvement of method. This paper analyzed the working principle of heat balance stem-flow gauge, summarized the changing regularity of plant sap flow rate in date and growth seasons, condensed the influence elements of plant transpiration rate and introduced the application of heat balance stem-flow gauge in detail. At last, the advantages, attentions and development prospects in practical application were presented.
