Current Situation and Virus Identification of Sweet Potato Virus Disease (SPVD) in Shaanxi Province

Abstract:

To clarify the occurrence range and severity of sweet potato virus disease (SPVD) in Shaanxi Province, 98 samples of sweet potato suspected of virus disease were collected from seven cities in the province, including Xi’an, Xianyang, Weinan, Yulin, Shangluo, Ankang and Baoji, and tested for SPVD by using multiplex RT-PCR assay. The results showed that the total virus detection rate of the samples was 52.04%, and sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (SPCSV) was detected in 38 samples (38.78%); sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV) was detected in 25 samples (25.52%). Among the 51 samples detected with viruses, 38 samples were infested with a single virus and 13 samples were infested with a combination of two viruses, and the detection rate of SPVD was 13.27%. Except that no SPFMV-CH2 strain was detected in Xianyang, SPCSV and SPFMV-CH and CH2 strains were all detected in other six cities. SPCSV was detected in 2 of the 46 breeding materials, with a detection rate of 4.35%, indicating that SPVD has occurred widely in Shaanxi Province, and the incidence is rather serious.
