Abstract: Antioxidant Activity of Water Extracts from fiber root, leaf and flower of Coptis plant was studied. The result indicated that the water extracts from all parts of this plant exerted a relative strong antioxidant activity. The IC50 for hydroxyl free radical scavenging of the extracts from fibre, leaf and flower were 11.85, 7.21 and 11.22 mg/ml, respectively. Consequently, IC50 for hydrogen peroxide scavenging of the extracts were 0.8、0.76、and 1.07mg/ml, respectively. The fibre, leaf and flower with IC50 2.42, 1.77 and 2.76mg/ml, respectively, also showed strong ability to eliminate O2-·. Antioxidant Activities of the extracts increased when the extract concentration increased.
