Abstract: Haoyun No.8 is new hybrid muskmelon variety developed from inbred line HN14-d as female parent and TY8-a as male parent. It was bred with directive breeding approach in stress environment to adapt to warm and humid regions in South China. The melon characteristics is as follows: ellipse in shape, orange skin with green splash, medium net lines, orange-red and crispy flesh with light fragrant smell, 3.5cm flesh thickness with 15-16% soluble solid content in the center. Its growth duration is 110d in spring and 90d in autumn with yield of 36t/hm2. Fruit development duration is around 45d. The plant is vigorous and easy for melon-setting. It is moderate resistant to powdery mildew, downy mildew and stem blight and suitable to grow in South China. It was certified and registered by Guangxi Committee for Crop Variety Registration in March, 2007.
