Abstract: The F2 and F3 progenies of one single crosse introduced recent year were selected for high yielding breeding in different ecological conditions, respectively, to which the selection response was investigated. The results showed that the selected ratio and the mean grain weight per ear of superior ears from Northeast and Northwest part of Chinese maize areas was greater than that from Huanghuhai . Ecological conditions in Northeast and Northwest part of China were thought to be beneficial on the selection for high yield potential of progenies of maize crosses, while ecological conditions in Huanghuaihai China for resistances of many diseases, insects and other abiologic stresses, In maize breeding strategies, selection in different ecological conditions alternately was helpful for the both yielding potential per plant and resistances for diseases and insects selection.
