Abstract:

Nondestructive detection of fruits and vegetables quality is highly important to the industry and trading. Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has been widely used in nondestructive detection of fruits and vegetables quality, because of its good speed and efficiency. The objective of this review was to introduce the special attributes of NIRS, development of related NIRS spectrophotometer, and the application of NIRS in nondestructive detecting of fruits and vegetables quality, including sugar and acid concentration, maturity, and diseases condition. However, insufficiency of practical and robust NIRS models restricted the deployment of NIRS technology. In the future, portable NIRS equipments will be more useful for fruits and vegetables industry.
