Abstract:
In order to evaluate the distribution of grain concentrations of Iron (Fe) in common wheat varieties/lines in China, and then lay a foundation for breeding the high iron content wheat, 83 varieties/lines were picked out randomly and investigated by an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer after digesting samples in a closed microwave system. The results showed that the mean grain content of Fe was 30.13mg?kg-1,and Fe content appeared to have a great variation (CV 14.56), ranging from 5.64 mg?kg-1 to 59.5mg?kg-1. The varieties/lines with grain Fe content between 10 and 50 mg?kg-1 were up to 85.55 percent, while those above 50 mg?kg-1 were only 10.84 percent, which indicating the shuttle-shape distribution. The Fe contents of three landraces (Siyuecao, Jinboyin, and Huisancao) were over 50 mg?kg-1, indicating that there were the germplasms with high Fe content in our landraces. The Fe content of four varieties with dark seed-capsule, such as Nongda3753, were near 40mg?kg-1, above the mean value, comparing to other white varieties.
