Abstract:

SSR (simple sequence repeat) markers are one of DNA markers based on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). SSRs (simple sequence repeats) show much higher level polymorphism and randomly distributed along the linkage map in melon (Cucumis melo L.), and the SSR markers are inherited in a codominant manner. The utilization of SSR markers in genetic diversity, genome mapping, gene location, and marker assisted selection in melon genetics and breeding are summarized in this paper.
