Abstract: The toxic effect of harmful heavy metals in tobacco, such as Hg, Cd, Cr, Pb and As was sketched in this paper. The research progress in distribution of these heavy metals on different parts of tobacco in recent years was reviewed. The effective prevention and control methods of reducing the pollution and hazards of heavy metals during production were also summarized. We suggested that the tobacco scientific researchers should study the absorption, distribution and prevention fatherly. Meanwhile, the whole manufacturing process should highly controlled by departments of tobacco productions. The pollution source of heavy metals should be cut off, in order to guarantee the safety of tobacco products, thus protect the safety of smokers.
