Abstract: The mangrove forest in Zhanjiang Bay plays an important role in prevention of coastal erosion and typhoon hazards. In order to reveal soil characteristics, 3 sample plots of mangrove forests respectively located at Donghai Dake, Libu Village and Techeng Island were set up, and the soil samples at depth of 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm, 20-30 cm, 30-50 cm were collected. Then the pH, carbon content, total N and available N content, total P and available P content, total K and available K content, and salt content were examined. The result showed that the 9 soil physical and chemical indicators tested varied obviously along with the increase in soil depth. The soil was highly acidic, and developed towards acid sulphate soil. The high salt content was also found in the soil, exhibiting salinization characteristics. Optimizing the soil environment was suggested.
