Genetic Parameter Estimation of Xinjiang Brown Cattle’s Main Economic Characters

Abstract: The study aims to determine the Xinjiang brown cattle’s genetic parameters of main growth and economic characters by using animal models and the derivation constraint maximum likelihood method (MTDFREML). Results show that: heritability of Xinjiang brown cattle’s growth characters, including birth weight, 6 months weight, one full year weight, 2 years old weight, which are 0.45, 0.37, 0.38 0.34, respectively, belong to medium level. The heritability of body measurements indexes of different age are different, indexes such as one full year weight, 2 years old weight, body slanting length and body height have comparatively strong phenotypic and genetic correlation. We suggest that the breeding work of Xinjiang brown cattle should focus on selecting major breeding objectives like body height and body slanting length.
