Abstract: In order to analyze the spatial-temporal relationship between cultivated land quality and grain production level, and find the approaches to improve grain production capacity based on cultivated land quality, conversion coefficient (IQ) was established with the help of GIS. And classification of cultivated land quality was converted into the comparable comprehensive quality. By studying the current situation of cultivated land quality and grain production, their classification types were obtained. According to the types, comprehensive patterns of “cultivated land quality - production level” were constructed. The results showed that the conversion coefficient of cultivated land quality in Jiangxi Province ranged from 3.56% to 4.67%. Three types of cultivated land quality and grain production were obtained. The province could be divided into seven comprehensive patterns including low quality-low production area (LQ-LP), low quality-middle production area (LQ-MP), et al. At last, some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions from the aspect of ecological environment, natural conditions and social economy input were put forward aiming at the existing problems.
