Endosperm Mutation Genes and Molecular Breeding of Fresh Corn: Research Progress

Abstract: In recent 20 years, the breeding of fresh corn, an important fruit and vegetable type crop, has developed rapidly in China. To know the genetic research and molecular breeding progress of fresh corn, this study introduced the discovery process of endosperm mutant genes in corn, analyzed their molecular mechanisms and functions, and reviewed their application to different kinds of sweet and wax corn. Through summarizing the transgenic progress, QTL localization of qualities, agronomic traits and disease resistance, and association analysis results of fresh corn, as well as briefly reviewing the concept and characteristics of functional molecular markers, we discussed the future direction of molecular breeding of fresh corn and put forward some suggestions.
