Abstract:

The paper aims to study the effects of allelochemicals in straw on the germination of maize seeds and growth characteristics of seedlings. We set different concentrations of mixed acid solutions of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, phthalic acid, benzoic acid, syringic acid and vanillic acid as treatments, and cultivated maize seeds and seedlings, determined their physiological indexes by taking distilled water as control (CK). The results showed that: the mixed acid solutions significantly reduced the germination rate and radicle length of maize seeds; the mixed acid solutions of 100 mg/L, 200 mg/L and 500 mg/L significantly reduced hypocotyl length and the root activity of maize seedlings; the catalase activity of mixed acid solutions were higher than that of CK, and there was no significant difference; with the increase of mixed acid concentration, MDA content in maize leaves increased gradually. Mixed acid solution of above 50 mg/L concentration could inhibit the growth of maize seeds and seedlings.
