Abstract:

To explore the relationship between body weight and adult traits of Yunshang black goat, based on the body weight and adult traits data of 98 Yunshang black female goats, Pearson correlation analysis and canonical correlation analysis were performed on 11 variables using R software. The results of Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a highly significant correlation between adjacent body weight (0.30<r<0.42, P<0.01) except adjusted body weight at 12 and 18 months of age; there was a highly significant correlation between adjusted body weight at 18 months of age and adult traits except body height (0.39<r<0.76, P<0.01); chest girth, canal circumference, backfat thickness and eye muscle area were significantly correlated (0.24<r<0.76, P<0.05). Canonical correlation analysis showed that the correlation between body weight and adult traits was mainly contributed by adjusted body weight at 18 months of age and chest girth. The study indicates that chest girth could be selected as a promising breeding index which is a key adult trait affecting body weight of Yunshang black goat.
