Abstract:

Silage is one of the most classical methods for long-term preservation of forage. According to the effects of the silage additives on silage conservation, four types can be generally classified as the following: (1) fermentation stimulators; (2) fermentation inhibitors; (3) aerobic spoilage inhibitors; (4) nutrition and absorbent. This review summarized and analyzed the research on silage additives published around the world, and discussed the effects of silage additives on silage fermentation, aerobic stability, and livestock intake and utilization, aiming to improve silage fermentation, nutrition value and animal productivity.

Key words: silage, silage additives, silage inoculants, aerobic stability, animal productivity
