Abstract:

To explore suitable seedling cultivation methods for flue-cured tobacco in Yongzhou tobacco-growing areas and improve seedling techniques, a comparative study was conducted using the cultivar ‘Yunyan 87’ under four treatments: spray seedling (T1), shallow water seedling (T2), shallow water coupled with fiber cotton moist seedling (T3), and floating seedling (T4). The effects of different methods on seedling quality, root system, biomass, strong seedling index, field growth period, agronomic traits, economic characteristics, and chemical components were systematically analyzed. Results showed that T3 treatment achieved the highest seedling emergence rate (100%), shortened the growth period by 5 days, and exhibited superior growth vigor, seedling quality, and root performance, with overall seedling quality ranking as T3>T2>T4>T1. During the field growth stage, T3 demonstrated optimal comprehensive agronomic traits, including plant height, stem circumference, effective leaf number, and maximum leaf area, with the ranking as T3>T2>T1>T4. Furthermore, T3 displayed the best coordination of economic traits and chemical components. These findings indicate that shallow water coupled with fiber cotton moist seedling cultivation significantly enhances seedling quality and is suitable for promotion in Yongzhou tobacco-growing areas.
