Abstract: The fixed roots-divided and alternative roots-divided water stress were used to compare the effects of different water stress on root vitality, root water potential, and leave relative water content of Malus hupehensis in the experiment. The result showed that the fixed root-divided water stress had positive influence on the leave relative water content, root dry weight, root surface, root vitality and root water potential on the half-root unstressed. The water-containing capacity of the fixed roots-divided water stress was better than that of the alternative root-divided water stress. All of the parameters of the unstressed half-root on the fixed roots-divided were remarkably higher than the two half-roots both water stressed. And the fixed root-divided water stress was keeping higher leave relative water content and root potential than the alternative root-divided water stress, therefore this suggested that half-root water stress may play a positive role in making full use of water on root and the experiment showed that the fixed root-divide water stress had more significance than the alternative on utilization of water on root under stress.
