Abstract:
The aim was to understand the regulation roles of glucose on wheat grain yield under drought and low nitrogen stress. Pot experiments were carried out to study the effects of exogenous glucose on wheat grain yield and quality characteristics from anthesis to maturity under soil drought combined with low nitrogen. The results showed that drought combined with lower nitrogen level significantly affected maturing rate and grain filling after anthesis. In comparing with normal nitrogen level, lower nitrogen level reduced fertile spikelet number, kernel number per spike, grain weight and grain plumpness. The yields of starch and protein in grains were reduced under drought combined with low nitrogen. However, application exogenous glucose under drought combined with low nitrogen significantly improved the accumulation of dry matter in grain, and increased maturing rate, the accumulations of starch and protein in grain. Wheat supplied with exogenous glucose could increase grain yield by maintaining comparatively higher SPAD of flag leaf during moderate and later grain filling, and prolonging the duration of grain filling. It indicated that the application exogenous glucose contributed to aggravation of the adverse effects of drought combined with low nitrogen on the development of grain and grain filling.
