Abstract: Based on a heat-resistant type G-S59 and a heat-sensitive type P-S11, in this study, we analyzed the relationship between bolting and two heat shock protein genes in Lactuca sativa L.(LsHsp70-2711 gene and LsHsp70-3711 gene) with the help of real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR). The result showed that the expression of the two Hsp70 genes in lettuce varied significantly before and after bolting, based on which we could conjecture that there was a relationship between bolting and the two Hsp70 genes in lettuce. In addition, in either type, the relative expression of LsHsp70-2711 after bolting was evidently higher than that beforehand. Moreover, when under the same treatment, the expression of LsHsp70-2711 gene in heat-resistant type G-S59 was much higher than that in heat-sensitive type P-S11 while the expression of LsHsp70-3711 gene had the opposite result. Therefore we deduced that the two Hsp70 genes not only had correlation with heat-resistance in lettuce, but also had some extent relationships with bolting.
