Abstract:

Streptococcus pneumoniae is the pathogen which leads to the pneumonia and septicemia of young pigs. This study applies a new technique, real-time florescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction, to establish a rapid diagnostic method for detecting the S. pneumoniae by using a set of special primers for 16S rRNA gene. The validations of repeatability, specificity and sensitivity indicate that this method is suitable for clinical diagnosis of S. pneumoniae.
