Abstract:

To obtain the spatial distribution information of sugarcane planting area in Yunnan and evaluate the dominance of sugarcane planting, the spatial distribution and acreage of sugarcane in Yunnan were estimated by using Landsat8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) images, corresponding data of in-situ survey and the method of maximum likelihood. Based on the remote sensing acreage, the dominance of sugarcane in each region was evaluated by using the method of comparative advantage index. According to the study, the average acreage of sugarcane in the study area between 2014 and 2016 was approximately 241233 hm 2, mainly distributed along major valleys in the southwest and south of Yunnan. About 88% of sugarcane acreage in Yunnan was from five regions as Licang, Dehong, Baoshan, Pu’er and Wenshan. The scale advantage index of Lincang, Dehong, Pu’er, Baoshan and Xishuangbanna was 4.76, 5.25, 2.07, 1.53 and 3.26, respectively, and these regions were considered as the dominant area for sugarcane planting. The scale advantage index of Wenshan, Yuxi, Honghe and Dali was lower than 1, indicating no obvious planting advantage. This study could provide references for the spatial layout and optimization adjustment of sugarcane planting in Yunnan.
