Abstract:

To understand the variation of sugar content in sweet sorghum stem and provide theoretical basis for sweet sorghum breeding and production practices, 18 sweet sorghum varieties were used as materials to analyze the sugar content in stalk at different times, different nodes, and the relationship between node and culm sugar content using variance analysis, correlation analysis, and grey relational degree analysis. The results showed that the sugar content in sweet sorghum stem varied in time, with lower values in S1 and S2 periods and a fast-growing in S2-S3 and S3-S4 periods, reaching a peak in S4 period. In the vertical spatial dimension, the middle node had the highest sugar content, while the top and bottom nodes had lower sugar content, and the correlation between sugar content in different nodes decreased as the vertical distance between nodes increased. In addition, the order of sugar content in different nodes was: base node > middle node > top node, and the sugar content in the middle node was closest to that in the culm. Therefore, in the breeding process of sweet sorghum, the middle node can be used as an indicator node for stem sugar content, and it is also a breakthrough point for improving stem sugar content.
