Study on Hanging Culture Technique of Portunus trituberculatus in Ponds

Abstract: In order to solve mutual killing, high death rate of mating period and low market price during traditional culture of Portunus trituberculatus in prawn ponds, contrast experiments of hanging culture in the ponds of culturing juvenile crabs(Eriocheir sisensis)and scattering culture in prawn pond during 2002 have been carried out. In the past years of 2003 and 2004, experiments of hanging culture of Portunus trituberculatus in the ponds of culturing juvenile crabs have been carried out. The culture area is 13.34hm2 in which 104720.0kg and 118625.0kg commercial crabs have been produced separately with average weight more than 0.300kg, average survival rate 68% and 73%, average yield per hm2 7850.1kg and 8892.4kg, average output value 628006.00/hm2 and 711394.30/hm2, average profits 368227.80/hm2 and 407940.50/hm2. Compared hanging culture in 2004 with scattering culture in prawn pond in 2002, the yield has increased by 70%, the profits has increased by 87%, the survival rate has increased by 52% and the income has increased by 189867.00/hm2. The technique of hanging culture Portunus trituberculatus in ponds of culturing juvenile is advanced in China because of its new pattern and remarkable result.
