Abstract: Land resources research, which can be divided into seven main directions such as land resource security, land resource sustainable utilization, land resource evaluation, land resource survey, land use and land cover change, land integrated consolidation and land use planning, is a very important field of natural resources research. This paper described the progress and attention content of each direction, summarized the development characteristics, pointed out the existing problems in the current research, and put forward some suggestions of research trends. They were: (1) to develop the basic theory in depth; (2) to strengthen comprehensive integrated research; (3) to pay attention to land use risk and uncertainty; (4) to improve the informationization and intelligence; (5) to combine the social and livelihood requirements closely; (6) to enhance collaboration between governments.
