Abstract: In this paper, the safety and control effects of different dosages of metolachlor 72% EC were evaluated in sugarcane fields. The results showed that, pre-emergence application of metolachlor 72% EC with 1500 mL/hm2 and 1950 mL/hm2 after large earth-up in late May to early June could effectively control the weeds, control effects on mono- and dicotyledonous weeds were greater than 95.1% after a 20-day treatment, more than 92.0% after a 40-day treatment on weeds number, while over 93.9% on fresh weight of weeds after a 40-day treatment. The control efficiencies of metolachlor 72% EC treatment at a dosage of 1950 mL/hm2 after 40 days of treatment were 95.7% and 94.9% on mono- and dicotyledonous weeds number, respectively, and 95.5% on fresh weight of weeds. Observation was also suggested that application of metolachlor 72% EC was safety to sugarcane.
