Abstract: Methane (CH4) is recognized as an important greenhouse gas, which comes from vast quantity of ecologic plots, especially paddy fields. However, the global warming potential of CH4 is 25-30 times as much as that of carbon dioxide (CO2). Methane emission from paddy field is the result of a complex array of soil processes involving plant microbe interaction, such as CH4 production, CH4 oxidation and CH4 transportation and many factors influencing the CH4 release of paddy fields. Among them, farming practices is one of the most important factors. This paper reviewed the contribution of farmer practices on CH4 in production, oxidation and emission, and put forward strategies to mitigate methane emissions from rice cultivation.
