Abstract: In order to provide theoretical basis for simplified culture technique of millet, this study was conducted to investigate whether the millet seedling emergence needed group power to break through the soil. An investigation and a statistical analysis of millet seedling emergence rate were carried out for two consecutive years under different sowing modes, such as drilling and dibbling, and different sowing depth and quantities. The results showed that the seedling emergence rate of millet had nothing to do with the sowing quantity under the same planting condition. If the soil preparation and moisture were good, the sowing quantity of about 4 kg/hm2 was suitable to forming appropriate seedling number in the farming, basically meet the requirement for less thinning or no thinning. The millet seedling emergence did not need group power to break through the soil.
