Peanut Production: Two Crops a Year in Henan

Abstract: In order to solve the technological problems of low propagation coefficient and low promotion speed of new peanut varieties, the authors studied some two crops a year methods in peanut production in Henan, verified the feasibility of two crops a year peanut production in Henan and selected the optimum sowing date and planting pattern. The normal big fruit peanut variety‘Yuhua 9326’and pearl bean shapes small fruit peanut variety‘Yuanza 9307’were used as materials, 3 planting patterns (greenhouse, double tunnel greenhouse and plastic mulching) were used to study the effect of different sowing date combinations on two crops a year peanut production. The results showed that the above 3 cultivation methods could all achieve two crops a year, and the propagation coefficient was 23.85- 226.51. Among those results, the propagation coefficient reached the highest of 179.14 by the first season double tunnel greenhouse method and the second season sowing at June 25th; the propagation coefficient was the lowest of 37.46 by the first season plastic mulching and the second season sowing at June 25th. The optimum sowing date for the first season of greenhouse and double tunnel greenhouse was late March and that of plastic mulching was early April, and the optimum sowing date for the second season was late June. The results showed that those three planting pattern could all achieve two crops a year peanut production in Henan, but the effect of double tunnel greenhouse was much better.
