Abstract:

To speed up the process of mechanization of maize breeding, it is important to screen out new germplasms of early-maturity, high density resistance, quick dehydration and suitability to mechanized harvest. 14 introduced American maize inbred lines were tested with the design of NCⅡ incomplete diallel cross method to study the combining ability and its genetic parameters of 11 characters. The results showed that IRF315 line could improve the production of the combinations, IRF313-1, IRF313-2 and B103 inbred lines could decrease the plant height and ear height of the combinations, inbred lines of PHG7, PHK76, PHW43, PHJ89, 3IBI3, B103 and PHJ40 could accelerate the dehydration rate of the combinations and could be used directly in production. IRF313-1 × Zheng718 and IRF315 × Zheng58 combination had strong hybrid vigor and potentiality of yield increase. In maize breeding, the 4 characters such as plant height should be selected in early generation and the 4 characters such as ear width should be selected in later generation.
