Different Maize Germplasm Materials: Grey Correlation Analysis of Plant and Ear-kernel Traits

Abstract:

To study the relationship among the main agronomic traits of 12 maize single cross hybrids, the grey correlation analysis method was used to analyze the grey correlation degree of the main traits of plant, ear-kernel, yield and quality of the tested materials. The results showed that the plant and ear-kernel traits closely related to yield were kernel rate, kernel number per row, ear diameter, kernel weight per ear, 100-kernel weight and etc. The correlation degree was from 0.4353 to 0.3327. Plant and ear-kernel traits closely related to nutritional qualities such as crude protein, crude fat, crude starch and lysine content were kernel rate, plant height, ear length, cod diameter and kernel number per row, and etc. The correlation degree was 0.5106-0.3929. In summary, for the genetic improvement of different maize germplasm materials, it is necessary to give priority to the selection of kernel rate and 100-kernel weight on the premise of ensuring normal growth, and more attention should also be paid to the selection of plant height, ear length, cob diameter, kernel number per row, thus improving the breeding efficiency.
